Myopia Control Lenses Singapore

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a refractive problem that can be corrected with myopia control lens. It happens when the axial length of the eyeballs grow longer than normal. This causes the perceived image to fall in front of the retina, and since the light does not focus properly, the images appear blurry.

Myopia is a common vision problem that affects many people in all parts of the world. However, Myopia is not a disease or medical condition, but rather a problem with eye focusing. Thus, the use of myopia correction lens is often prescribed. Through the use of myopia control lenses, you can prevent your child’s myopia from worsening.

How do myopia control lenses work?

Blue light, emitted by digital screens like smartphones and computers, has a short wavelength that penetrates deep into the eyes. Prolonged exposure to blue light can disrupt natural sleep patterns by interfering with the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep-wake cycles. It can also cause digital eye strain, characterised by symptoms such as dry eyes, blurred vision and headaches. Here, blue light lenses can address these concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Controlling myopia helps to keep the prescription low and protect one’s vision as one grows older. It greatly reduces the risk of ocular diseases later in life such as retinal detachment.

Myopia occurs when the eyeball gets elongated. Myopia control lenses help to slow down the eyeball growth and provide clear vision at the same time. A portion of the lens provides distance correction while the peripheral area provides myopic defocus, preventing them from overstraining their eyes at all distances.

There are 4 main types of myopia control treatments. Orthokeratology (Ortho-K), atropine eye drops, Myopic defocus lenses and multifocal lenses. Visit our stores to determine which option is more suitable for your kid’s eye condition.

Myopia control should start once the child’s spherical power reaches -0.50D (50 degrees).
